From Your Files to Approved First Article
Six steps — fast, documented, and designed so your first article is ready to approve, not revise.
Step 01 — Design Review
Your Design Files Are Reviewed for Machinability Before We Cut Anything
Before programming begins, we examine your drawing or CAD model for machinability — checking tolerances, feature access, wall sections, and material compatibility. If we spot something that could cause a problem, we flag it before we cut, not after. This DFM review is standard on every prototype order.
Step 02 — Rapid Programming
Toolpaths Are Programmed Fast — No Long Lead Times for Prototypes
We prioritise prototype programming in GibbsCAM — getting toolpaths on the machine quickly without sacrificing accuracy. Our experience with prototype setups means we program efficiently and get the job to the floor faster than shops that treat a one-off like a full production program.
Step 03 — Material Selection
Certified Stock Pulled from Inventory — No Wait on Material
We hold certified stock of the alloys most commonly used for prototype work — 4140, L80, stainless, Inconel, aluminum, and more. Pulling from in-house inventory means no waiting on material procurement. Mill cert documentation is tied to the job from the moment we select stock.
Step 04 — Machining
Part Is Machined to Drawing — Milling, Turning or Both as Needed
The prototype runs on our CNC milling or turning centres — or both, as the geometry requires. Prototype jobs run under the same ISO 9001:2015 quality system as production orders: correct program, correct material, in-process checks, and operator accountability throughout.
Step 05 — First Article Inspection
Every First Article Is Fully Inspected — Documented to Your Drawing
The first article off the machine is inspected against every dimension on your drawing. Results are recorded on a First Article Inspection report — included with your parts, not filed away in our system. You see exactly what we measured and exactly how the part conforms to spec.
Step 06 — Revise or Scale
Approve the Part & Scale to Production — or Revise and Rerun Fast
If the first article is approved, we're already set up to scale. Fixturing, programs, and documentation carry directly into production — same quality, no re-engineering. If you need changes, we revise quickly and rerun. Either way, you move forward fast.
